Federal Properties Meeting Set
Planning for the repeat of last year's highly successful meeting is now well underway; it will be held on February 6, 2008 in Washington, DC. A program planning committee has been formed, with Anita Molino (Bostonia Partners), Steve Surprenant (HDR), Steve Sorett (McKenna Long & Aldridge) and Bob Jennings (Scannell Properties) as members. First Energy Meeting Held Was a Success
On September 14, the NCPPP conducted another in its series of workshops. "Partnerships in Energy" was held in Washington, with over 50 people participating. The meeting offered an extremely substantive and stimulating program. Partnerships in Puerto Rico
Over the last several months, the NCPPP has seen an increase in discussions with a number of Association of General Contractors (AGC) local chapters. Indiana's chapter made a major presentation at the "Partnerships in Transportation Workshop" held in Kansas City in May. The May 15 Partnerships in Transportation Workshop had the second largest turnout for any workshop in recent history - 180 attendees, a number exceeded only by the Transportation workshop held in St. Louis in 2005, which saw just over 200 participants...more

New International Activites for the NCPPP
The United Nations' Special Unit for South/South Cooperation has extended its contract with the NCPPP for another year. NCPPP will continue to develop case studies on the use of PPPs in emerging economies, for inclusion on the Web site administered for the UN by the NCPPP. In addition to providing a significant income source for the NCPPP, this continues to raise the credibility of the Council not only on the international scene but also among public officials in the United States (a valuable asset in recruiting cosponsors for our workshops)...more

National League of Cities Training Institute
The NCPPP provided a briefing for members of the National League of Cities Training Institute, held on January 27, 2007 in Santa Monica, California. With approximately 50 mayors, city council members and other elected officials, presentations were given that covered the fundamentals of PPPs by Rick Norment (NCPPP), partnerships for transportation by Ken Butler (Capital Partnerships), water by Shilen Patel (Veolia Water North America), and real estate by John Stainback (Stainback Public/Private Real Estate).View Presentations

Economic Development Discussed at Fargo Workshop
At first glance, Fargo, ND, does not seem like a probable location for an NCPPP Real Estate Institute meeting. However, this unique venue saw a surprisingly good response for a workshop focusing particularly on the process for developing partnerships for economic development. NCPPP completed the process for selection of its prestigious annual awards in early October.The awards recognize exemplary projects and services that illustrate the best practices and innovative approaches in the use of public-private partnerships (PPPs). The most prestigious of the NCPPP awards is the Leadership Award, given in recognition of an individual's outstanding efforts for promotion of the use of PPPs. FEDERAL PROPERTIES WORKSHOP SOLD OUT
A one-day workshop was conducted by NCPPP staff and members at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, DC, on December 6, 2006. Entitled "PPPs for Federal Properties", the meeting drew both private real estate professionals, as well as, real estate decision makers from many federal agencies and provided NCPPP with its first-ever sold-out event. The hot topic of the day was enhanced-use leasing, though other types of partnerships were discussed...more

NCPPP CONDUCTS TRAINING FOR THE UN
Council members and staff conducted an intensive five-day course for senior UN officials in mid-September. A wide range of topics covered the creation and management of PPPs for all types of infrastructures (workshop presentations). As the Letter of Reference indicates, the United Nations Special Unit that contracted with the NCPPP for this session was extremely pleased with the results.

NEW APPROACH FOR OUR ANNUAL MEETING
The Council's Annual Meeting is an opportunity for all NCPPP members to be fully updated on recent developments and activities of their organization, as well as to provide input for the planning of 2007. This year's meeting, set for November 14 -15 at the Hilton Alexandria Old Town, will experiment with a new format. While the schedule is compressed to better utilize the limited time people have on their calendars, the agenda will include a number of outstanding features that will be of interest to everyone...more

MnDOT SCAN VISITS TxDOT
The NCPPP organized and executed a Scan of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) public-private partnership team for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT). Douglas Differt, the MNDOT Deputy Commissioner, led the tour delegation, which included five senior representatives from MnDOT, two from the Minneapolis office of the Federal Highway Administration, and one representative from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The goal of the Scan was to educate MnDOT officials about the implementation of the PPP process in order for the State of Minnesota to utilize the option to its fullest capabilities...more

NCPPP SHOWS ITS FLAG IN NEW ORLEANS
The Council played a visible role at the International City/County Management Association's (ICMA) major conference RESTORATION 2006, held in New Orleans, May 15-17. The meeting was also sponsored by the National League of Cities (NLC) and the National Association of Counties (NACo), and attracted over 1,000 people to discuss efforts and methods for restoration of the Gulf Coast areas following the hurricanes of 2005. On May 24, the Council held another of its annual workshops on the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circular A-76, titled The Changing Face of A-76.
